41. Boats - Emergency Radio Procedures

Ensure

Radio is set to Channel 16.
Electrical isolator ON.
Radio ON.
Toggle radio to INT.
Press CH16 or select CH16 with largest knob.
Pick up the mic and press switch to speak, release to listen.

Mayday

Only use MAYDAY if lives are threatened. This includes suspected DCS, burst Lung, lost diver, other serious injury. It does not include engine failure. Press switch and say:

“MAYDAY MAYDAY MAYDAY

THIS IS Stockport Diver, Stockport Diver, Stockport Diver

MAYDAY, Stockport Diver

I AM ‘give position as accurately as possible’

MY PROBLEM IS … (describe problem, e.g. diver missing)

I REQUIRE URGENT ASSISTANCE (describe other help if needed)

Over”

Be prepared to acknowledge answer and or provide more information from coastguard/other.

PAN PAN

Only use PAN PAN if there is a serious danger to ships, aircraft, other vehicle or people. Press switch and say:

“PAN PAN, PAN PAN, PAN PAN

All Stations, All Stations, All Stations

THIS IS Stockport Diver, Stockport Diver, Stockport Diver

I AM ‘give position as accurately as possible’

MY PROBLEM IS … (describe problem, e.g. engine failure & drifting)
