Key Points

Prepare lifting bag and 2 x 2Kg weights, entanglement in lifting bag, Check Students air frequently, beware of releasing weights at start ie, risk of unexpected ascent, beware lifting bag does not obscure view of Divers.

Introduction

Brief (SEEDS)

E - Explain what, why, how long, where.

E - Full kit, shot, weights, lifting bag

S - Come up slowly in case of difficulty.

D - Keep close, pay attention, look carefully and repeat when prompted.

S - 'Up', 'down', 'you watch me', 'you repeat’, ' a little bit’.

Dry run

  1. Demonstrate making up of shot (break it down) - Students repeat
  2. Demonstrate making of weights and line, explain why two weights - Students repeat
  3. Demonstrate lifting bag technique - avoid entanglement - Students repeat

Deep

  1. Surface swim to location and drop shot
  2. Descend together with equipment
  3. Get each student to feel weight underwater
  4. Experiment with one weight and lifting bag - Partially inflate and feel weight - Students repeat
  5. Repeat 7 with more air in bag - Students repeat
  6. Repeat 7 with enough air to lift weight off floor - Students repeat
  7. Demonstrate bag deflation - Students repeat
  8. Demonstrate lifting of combined weights - Students repeat
