19. Delayed SMB Deployment

Key Points

Beware entanglement with inflation device, If possible anchor SMB to wreckage etc., otherwise anchor yourself, or use two reels, deploy from highest position possible, hold away from buddy. At no time is SMB clipped to diver. Ensure DSMB is at surface before it is unclipped. Avoid free flows (inflate with exhaled air) if risk is high.

Introduction

Brief (SEEDS)

E - Explain what, why, how long, where.

E - Full kit. Delayed SMB and reel, knife

S - Avoid entanglement (line or SMB straps). Do not clip SMB to diver, keep line taught,

D - Keep close, pay attention, look carefully and repeat when prompted.

S - 'Up', 'down', 'you watch me', 'you repeat’,
