There are lots of ways to learn diving, each with advantages and disadvantages. Read on and get informed.
Introduction
There's no greater adventure than diving. Your mind will be mesmerised by the colourful and most beautiful sea creatures, your curiosity raised by the mysterious remains of sunken ships, or perhaps your creativity is awakened by the art of underwater photography. Your diving interests may range from simply a casual pastime pursued on vacations to a constant passion, or even as a career.
When you discover scuba diving, you discover freedom, serenity, adventure and fun. You discover the new feeling of weightlessness and the exhilaration of breathing underwater. You will learn new skills, new knowledge, meet new friends and go to new and exotic places. Nothing compares to the freedom and peace of scuba diving - it really is a completely new sensation.
Diving offers something for everyone, whether you're taking your first dive, or whether you've been diving for 20 years, there's always something new, fascinating or challenging about venturing into the underwater world.
Virtually anyone in good health who is reasonably fit and comfortable in the water, can learn to dive. Participants as young as twelve may take the course, and there are few additional restrictions. Once you discover how easy and fun scuba diving can be, you'll want to share it with friends and family. Divers will inevitably start learning the basics in the local swimming pool, moving onto inland quarries and shore diving.

Which Agency
In the UK there are three main agencies through which you can learn to dive; The BSAC, PADI & the SAA. Each will provide excellent and safe training programme's. The branch based systems are usually less expensive and provide additional support through local social diving clubs. See Agencies for more information.
Training Methodologies
There are many differerent variations in learning to dive, as long as you are learning with a recognised Agency the training will safe, structured and easy. There's nothing difficult in learning to dive, each lesson will be broken down into simple steps and the lessons will be designed to slowly build up on previous experience.
